2013 Writings: What is the Essence of Enlightenment? Dr. Rama

Dhanvantari, the sacred archetype Deity for Health and Healing

What is the essence of enlightenment?  This question is the most profound question in the seen and unseen Universe.  It is the essential question that countless civilizations in myriad, endless worlds have pondered since the Dawn and time and even before and will be the most salient topic into the unending future.

The question is paradoxically simple, yet complex.  It is simple because we are already enlightened.  It is complex because most of us do not consciously know, understand or remember this.

Enlightenment can never be described in words.  It can never be discussed to realize what it is.  All that can be done is to use words that have some association or reference to enlightenment, and yet words fail because they are too limited.   It can only be experienced from within. our inner experience is what we realize to be enlightenment....No debate, talk, rampage, war or any other physical, mental and emotional endeavor will ever solve the question of what enlightenment is.  It is the greatest mystery-- yet enlightenment is closer than our own breath and our thoughts.

This experience from within known as enlightenment is our essential Higher Self:  called by thousands and thousands of names over eons of time and from countless civilizations from this planet and infinite numbers of beings known and unknown.

There is no one who is not enlightened because we are essentially Source, we are the Spark of the original Divine consciousness. The only thing that clouded our inner essence are the antics and impressions within our own mind that veil our enlightenment,--- our Higher Self --and this has been going on century after century, lifetime after lifetime in an endless play of hide and seek between ourselves and the original Creator Source.

Yet, interestingly when we move into the state of enlightenment (which also has no ending and no beginning--it only expands in all inner directions and is greater and higher than before at any given moment)---our outer life becomes better and better, greater and greater--more and more productive, giving, loving, balanced whole, fulfilled, accomplished, renewed and refreshed.

Is it is not interesting?  There is nothing on the outside of us that will ever describe or create the state of enlightenment but when we consciously remember this inner state of Light our outer life automatically turns into an ever increasing positive and expanded experience, even while doing the most seemingly mundane tasks and chores, or even doing nothing at all.

That is is why it is worth exploring and remembering our enlightenment from within ourselves through any path of positive Light.

Until we do and rest in its essence all the time there is one thing that is guaranteed:  and that is more suffering for us mixed with life's pleasures and this dichotomy of experiences has essentially no end.  Even though we have bursts of happiness and our share of seeming good times, unless we consciously pursue our enlightenment and inner expanded consciousness, we will still always feel that something is missing, that there is something that is still not fulfilled and we will constantly search the external world for something that is deep within us already as our own spark of Divinity.

It is like a precious jewel that is sewn into our pocket but we do not remember it.  We thus search around the world and in outer space for buried treasure and go hither and thither on treasure hunts searching for joy and happiness outside of ourselves and use all kinds of maps that cause us to go down many roads:  some positive and some negative.  And  yet, we still have not remembered our inner jewel that is right in our pocket that we have had all along throughout countless milenia, our original Higher Self.

The great masters Spiritual Teachers, Avatars, Divine Mothers, Enlightened Workers and so on who have rested into their inner enlightenment or at least have had glimpses of expanded consciousness all attest that the joy and all other positive qualities that are experienced beyond and behind the mind are well worth the efforts ---we then gain and remember who we really are while in a body and mind right here on this Earth plane---something that billions have forgotten in the quagmire of this illusory world.

More next time.
